Training: Openings

You've given me a thought, in-fact. But it would require other features that require a considerable amount of work first.
Hi Lichess Team,

I agree with vbajnok, an opening trainer on lichess would be awesome!

The idea is to be able to choose and play an opening in a repetitive way (as in coordinates training) to be able to memorize different lines.

Cheers
I suggest using free opening material from other sources (eg 365 chess opening explorer) for studying openings and lichess for playing chess. Creating an opening trainer would mean an enormously large amount of effort, which i think is much to ask for and better spent on improving other aspects of the site.
Ah, I think we would be better off with having middle game positional trainer, to recognize what is advantageous in position and how to proceed. Memorizing an opening is not always a good idea.
Sure! memorizing openings is not a good idea but at least one should be able to replay the correct sequence of move for a given opening or else it can be disastrous :-)

Anyway, a middle game trainer is also a good idea, may be with a list of best moves for a given middle game position with a computer analysis. This should take less effort than an opening trainer since it is like endgame puzzles.

I beg to differ. it might look like the opening is completely useless and all you have to do is to play something normal in the opening and get to the middlegame where you are stronger, but it is completely false, as the opening and the middlegame are connected.

In fact, there is no such thing as "memorizing" an opening or learning moves by heart, it's usually a matter of knowing the plans that are available in the opening, and the moves you learn by heart help you to get to the wanted middlegame position, and nothing else, and you'll notice that it helps greatly to actually know what you'll get after the opening.
