ai ratings

stockfish lvl 1 is rated 1350 :/

how was that decided?
do you believe the actual rating of level 1 to be lower or higher?

im not sure how the ratings were calculated whether it was using the regular blitz/bullet type glicko or maybe the training glicko rating (which tend to be a bit lower) or something else...
This has come up many times. Ratings are simple indicators of relative strength against a pool of players. So your rating, my rating, the AI level's rating -- it all depends on who is playing against who and how many games are rated. If only 1000 players who are rated generally around 1000 or less are playing AI level 1, but say 10,000 players around 1200 are playing against AI level 2, the AI level 2 is going to have a rating around 1200, but the AI level 1 will win more games and could therefore be rated higher than AI level 2. That's just how the ratings work.

Thus, the rating of the AI level has little to do with its objective strength, but rather its relative strength against its competition.

This is a great answer and it is absolutely how I would have expected the AI rating to work.

But the answer is just wrong. This is not how the AI rating is implemented. Level 1 has been hardcoded as 1350 for a while.
Well than something changed because the devs got tired of giving the same answer I just did every month for 2 years? I don't honestly know.
Maybe one of them will be able to pop in and answer this mystery?
It looks like they have changed and been hardcoded. SF level 1 is easy.
I would imagine giving them real ratings would probably, because of the situation described by Fenris, cause confusion. It would seem inevitable that their ratings would at least some times not even be in the same sequence as their difficulty.
Don't get me wrong though, I'd be really interested in seeing the different levels' ratings. It's just, I don't know if it would really paint an accurate picture when using them to compare one another.

I always feel so stupid when the chess captcha stumps me for a moment. http://en.lichess.org/sSwbmx1K#62
