Do people really get banned for leaving the game instead of resigning, for aborting games, etc.?
Does Lichess offer any statistics on that?

Yes. Why would they not get banned?
Those players get timed out. Which means they won’t be able to play new games for an increasing amount of time. Eventually those players can also get banned if they don’t change their behavior. You can find examples of players complaining about getting timed out for leaving games in the forum.
