Some opponents are like this :(

For reals tho..

There's a little check box next to the word "Chat"

Uncheck it and the problem disappears, you can re-enable it later.
Anyone know anything about HTML5 canvas fingerprinting for uniquely identifying browsers?
Trash talk is part of chess everywhere. If you dont want to read thos, click at the chat box and disable it. But just dont take peolpe so serius here or anywhere at internet. Cheers
#24,

resignation to the lack of manners on the 'net is something of a fact of life, and I think i understand your point of don't let them get to you, but i don't think downplaying the hurt insults cause is the right way to go. it is a pity that the single real solution is to teach people that trolling is never ok. never.
I was interested in such behavior of trolls. And sometimes I entered the conversation with them and tried to understand their psychology. I also analysed such behavior and some psychological aspects about trolling.
Here are some things that I found out (statistics from bullet games):
1. They can be really good at chess. I didn't meet really good IMs or GMs (I'm not sure of course), usually these players are 1800-2300 (in Lichess rating). May be they can be lower than 1800, but:
2. If they are weaker, they will rarely insult you persistently. But will say something like "you lucky mo*on, learn to play", then they quit immediately.
3. If they insult you, and you win the next game, they will rather quit immediately.
4. They often have a lot of accounts and also, probably, cheated.
5. They can be sometimes clever/educated. Some trolls I met were: good programmers, knew history, literate (wrote correctly and were eloquent).
6. The age of them can be different. Though I don't have much information, but we saw that people can insult you if they are forty years old and if they are eight years old.
7. Some of them understand human psychology, or may be it's better to say, they know how to offend, where are the weak parts of human psyche.
8. The thing why people are offended by this is next:
We live in a real world and we need to study human psychology to communicate well with people. Trolls create some kind of a psychological game. And if you somehow want to play it, if you have this need (somewhere inside you) to study conflicts, you will be offended. I can say it more clearly:
If you came to some ping-pong room to just have fun for half an hour and you lose to somebody you rather will not even worry about it. But if you want to play it seriously, you will think, analyse your mistakes, you will feel depression of losses and joy of victories. The same is here: if you internally need this psychological conflict, you will be offended by trolls, because your bad state in this case force you to analyse how to counter a troll. And you enter this game and you can be offended by what they he say.
So, only way not to be offended by a troll is: not to have need (often subconscious) in a conflict. If you don't want internally any conflicts, you will just not give any attention to a troll, because you don't immerse yourself in this game.
So, if you are offended, it's probably because your brain say to you: something is bad, you can't counter this troll, so you will feel upset until you will find some solution to win this troll. This is how it works psychologically.
9. Trolling is a communicable disease. Those who are trolls, probably were not trolls sometime. They were trolled by nasty people, and therefore they became trolls also. Because they were upset, depressed by inability to counter trolls, so they find only one way to win, to solve this psychological paradox: to become a troll too. But this thing results because of their inner need to be good in conflicts. Because their world is build by conflicts.
10. Trolls can sometimes behave like a very polite and good people. They will say gg, will talk to you with pleasure, will support the dialog in the best manner. But in another game they will offend you. So their troll behavior doesn't appear always. It's like a game for them. They have different masks.
11. Some of people who you nicely talk on the Lichess forums with and who have accounts, can be trolls, which in some games offend you in the anonymous chat.
12. Some people who you nicely talk in a real life with, some people who are your friends, relatives or acquaintances, can be (may be not a big chance, but it still possible) trolls in the anonymous network. And you will never understand they are trolls.

May be I will mention some more things. But this is the main I wanted to say. :)
Anonymous people + troll comments = 100% obnoxious
(Math)
When i was referred something suggestive/educative i exactly meant the new buttons at the bottom of chat section (gg, gtg, etc). I am very happy to see this!. Thank you very much for adding this! It makes it very easy to be nice to opponents. Also, imagine you are playing with a troll and he is prepared to insult you, but you start with some kind words to the game (like good luck) i am not a psychologist but i feel this makes harder for them to do it what they want. It would be nice if we can have a chance to select them to be default when game started/ended. Sometimes (especially in bullet) its very easy to miss.
