Why are the so few women in the chess elite?

Yeah, this is what i had in mind. (At least not in chess sites)
The thing is, ever since the middle of the last century, women have been given the same opportunities as men and yet they have still not come into an equal position in chess.

My opinion is that while some women like Polgar exist, statistically they are rarer. It's not that women don't have something that men have, it's that difference comes down to a trait that is statisically much rarer in women. IDK if it is genetic or just tissue or hormone related. It's probably affected by a large number of genes and signalling molecules, combined with the development of the brain.

Sort of like how men have higher muscle density, and very few women reach the same level of strength as the best bodybuilders. Chess might even be more equal in that sense, as I don't think there is a strongman analogue to Polgar.

I think that if women, on average, were just as good as men, more women would be recruited. There's a lot of money in chess, and people are going to stupidly let a female prodigy go to waste. I don't think having children would be a huge negative for a grand master, IMHO.
