Competitive Chess Tournaments in the Capital Region. We meet at the Shelly Studio of Bridge and Games, 6 British American Blvd, Suite 103, Latham, NY 12110.
Named after the former New York State Champion and Tournament Organizer, Julius Finn, (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Julius_Finn), Finn Chess Tournaments will continue the great efforts of the many predecessors who have promoted and provided chess to players of all abilities in New York State.
The years-long tradition of weekend chess begun by the late Norma Shelly will now live on in her namesake studio.

Main issues with amateur chess:

  1. Amateur tournaments have become too entwined with money, which only promotes engine-cheating.
  2. Non-tournament chess is almost exclusively played on-line.
    Addressing these issues, Finn Chess Tournaments aims to provide an improved opportunity to play chess in the Northeast.
    Our goal is to provide low-cost, in-person, rated chess tournaments for all players of all abilities.
